The US Embassy in Libya has disclosed that the US Agency for International Development (USAID) is cooperating with the General Electricity Company to develop an operational plan aimed at stabilizing the national grid and aligning it with the Libyan programme for emergency grid stabilization.

In a statement on its Facebook account, the embassy explained that the plan set to improve service performance by using techniques such as shedding loads fairly and equitably at the municipal level.

This entails that electricity service is cut off equitably for short and limited periods; in addition to negotiating with the largest consumers to divide their activity in off-peak hours, it added.

The embassy pointed out that the General Electricity Company improved in the first quarter of 2022, the average daily electricity production by 10.5 percent compared to the same period last year.

The embassy stated that the electricity network is facing additional pressures during the summer of this year, due to high temperatures.

The US Agency for International Development is organizing workshops to address the issue and to help the national grid operators to address supply gaps and effectively transmit energy between the eastern and western regions of the network, the embassy added.
