The Libyan House of Representatives (HoR) and High Council of State (HCS) called on the international community to support elections in the country as per a consensual legal basis, urging for the assistance of international monitors in the process.

A press statement by HoR and HCS members after the end of consultation meetings in Morocco's Rabat for the two Councils' delegations called for support based on the Libyan Political Dialogue Forum's roadmap and for guaranteeing the respect of the elections results by sending international monitors.

The statement said elections are very important so Libya can transit into lasting peace and stability, adding that the HoR and HCS meetings took place in a very friendly and understanding environment.

The two delegations held meetings in Rabat over the last two days to discuss elections laws.

Sources close to some of the attendees said the parliamentary elections law could be agreed upon by the HoR and HCS but the main problem remains in the presidential elections law that has been unilaterally issued by the HoR, a moved rejected by the HCS because of the dual citizenship, military figures and people with criminal records' candidacy issues.
